Advanced Furniture Testing joins Standards Australia Committee
Advanced Furniture Testing has accepted an invitation to join the Standards Australia Committee “CS-088”.
Advanced Furniture Testing is an accredited independent laboratory which tests commercial furniture to specific Australian and international furniture standards. The company is accredited by the National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA) and is authorised to test and certify furniture to 14 international furniture standards.
Standards Australia is the leading independent, non-governmental, not-for-profit organisation specialising in the development and adoption of international and Australian standards. The CS-088 committee is responsible for the development of new Australian Furniture Standards.
Standards are intended to provide all users with a common basis for evaluating the safety, durability and structural adequacy of furniture. They are developed in a consensus-based process organised by a recognised standards body. In Australia this is Standards Australia (AS/NZS), and in the United States of America the body is ANSI/BIFMA.
In summary, standards:
- Describe the means of evaluating furniture products
- Define the specific tests
- Define the test equipment that may be used
- Define the minimum acceptable levels
- Define how products should be tested
Advanced Furniture Testing is undoubtedly one of the most technologically-advanced mechanical furniture testing laboratories in the Southern Hemisphere.
Accredited 1st February 2018, being invited to join the CS-088 Committee is due recognition of the expertise Advanced Furniture Testing has already built in the Australian furniture testing industry.
